There should be fine print on the coupon itself that states what you can and can’t use it for. These terms and conditions can usually be found at the bottom of the receipt near the expiration date.

Some coupons do not have a specific expiration date indicated, which means you can use them whenever you want! Some stores will also accept expired coupons if it’s only a few days after the expiration date, but you need to make sure your store’s policy allows for this.

You also need to pay attention to which store the coupon is for. For example, you cannot use a Sephora coupon at Ulta Beauty. Always keep your coupons organized so you don’t end up trying to use an expired coupon (or worse, one for another store) at checkout.
